Seasonal Renegades: Two Online Workshops for the Run-Up to Christmas. Tues 2nd & Tues 9th December 2025, 7-9pm.
Many poems employ the language, imagery and paraphernalia of Christmas in order to deflate or subvert our expectations of what a ‘Christmas poem’ might be. These two workshops will use poems that do precisely this as prompts for our own writing. Maybe you’ve always wanted to write your own Christmas poem to send to family and friends … Maybe you just want to enjoy some fine and slightly surprising poems in good company. Come for the poetic mince pies, stay for the “Santa / who didn’t ho-ho-ho in jolly mirth” (both included in the price!). Poems by Caroline Bird, Alison Joseph, Gregory Woods, Kim Moore, UA Fanthorpe and more.
Price: £25 per workshop. Book both for £47.50 (5% off).

Taking Down the Tree: Two Online Poetry Workshops for January. Tues 6th & Tues 13th January 2026, 7-9pm.
The poet Ada Limón writes of enjoying taking down the Christmas tree and packing away the festive lights just as much as putting them up. At this point, she suggests, we “settle in to the true dark of winter”. Join Rosie Miles for two workshops which will embrace this (sometimes challenging month of the year. We’ll dive into the depths of the night, the inclement weather, and the hinging of the year with its moments of elegiac reflection and hopeful looking ahead. Poems by Marie Howe, Ted Hughes, Louise Glück, Jane Kenyon and others.
Price: £25 per workshop. Book both for £47.50 (5% off).

Poetry is not a Luxury: Manifestos! A new six-week online course. Tuesday 20th January to Tuesday 24th February 2026.
Many poets have created prose statements about their understanding of what poetry is and its meaning in the world. Sometimes this goes under the name of ‘poetics’. On occasions these statements have been hugely influential and still have significant bearing on how we think about poetry today, in the twenty-first century.
This exciting six-week course will introduce some of these manifestos: it will combine older foundational writings (by Wordsworth, Arnold, Eliot and Pound), twentieth-century essays by Audre Lorde and Adrienne Rich, and quotes and extracts from living poets who continue to engage with and develop these ideas. We will also look at numerous contemporary poems that enact, argue with or subvert the poetics these poets offered.
There will be reading to do before sessions and writing exercises will be suggested too. Places will be limited so early booking is recommended.
Price: £150.
